This thusday, I decided to move my piano from my father’s apartment to mine. Of course, it was easier said than done, because the piano is big and heavy. I had only one day to complete my task and I couldn’t afford to pay a moving van.

 

 

So, the first thing I needed was a pickup truck, which my uncle had. I called him the day before to borrow it

 

 

.-The frist iten that i needed was a truck or a big pick up truck, one of my uncles onw a toyota hilux, and even that i call him the day before ,he doesnt had any problem to borrow it, and also he wanted to help. //all the help was well recived//

 

This //caminoneta// is very tall so it was hard to raise the piano (80cm)

 

 

.-We also needed someone to help, at least 3 strong man, but it was imposible to find someone the same day in the morning, (and all of mi friends were in the university)

The solution was to pay some money to the (conserjes) of each bulding or find some gardeners or (basureros)

 

 

.-Preparations of the piano: yes sir, this intrument needs perparations to protect the inside arp fron un tunne, and also some parts can be unasambled to reduce weight and volume, this way we were able to introduce the parts into the elevators.

Other way we should needed more person to help move the instrument in the ladders.

 

 

.- Preparation of the tires of the pick up truck:

It was importan to raise the presure of the tires from 20psi, city use until 32psi that is recomended in the pick up truck manual.

Other important issue is that maive the pick up truck whith the piano over may be taller than the subterraneoús celling. So i take something to waste presure of the tires if needed.

 

 

.- Preparation of the tuck

A piano weights above 400 kilos, al least, so it is important to take of any piece of the truck that can be damaged. The piano have 4 little weels that hold his huge weight and the plastic protections of the cargo area is not strong enougth, so it was removed.

 

 

.- the easiest way to move this weight is over a carpet. Because its 4 lithe wheels are to small and damages the floor seriously.

 

 

First issue: how to put a 180 whide piano inside a 160cm whide elevator?

 

 

Easy, just unesamble the piano most as posible, and then rise it to one of its side. Every elevator is taller than 2 meters.

Second isue: How to hold this heavy weingt in a moving platform?

We used cords and i travel all the way holding it, to be sure, it was pretti dangerous. But i could do anything to have mi dear instrument safe.

 

Trird isue: Our frindly cops departmet

 

In chile if you are moving something this big, you need to carri whith you an dispatch guide. Or an (mudansa) permise. Otherwise you will be (multado) and the cargo will be hold until you can prove that the things are yours, and that you will pay the (multa).

To solve this a friend gave me a distapch guide, and we just lie on it. It says that the piano was taken from a restaurant to another, and we valorised the intrument.

Its a very stupid sistem because every one can lie this way, the dispatch guide can be (anuled) after used.

 

Fourth issue: How to lift the piano over the truck?

Have you seen a car over four (ladrillos)? Is the way chilean booglers stole car wheels, well we used the same sistem.

It´s easier to lift 10cm 8 times than 80cm one time, so we lift one side and put a (ladrillo) then the other side... it was realy easy.  Even more than we spected.

 

Fifth issue: You may remember that i mentioned tires presure before?

Well the truck loaded was taller than the roof of the -1 floor, just needed to drop some presure, and move slow and carefully whit the truck.

 

Six issue: How to download the truck?

This time we coulndnt use the (ladrillos) tecnique, the only way was using the muscules, and we doesnt had much of them.

We droped one side and tried to speed down the piano... tried best we can.

Once we completed the task, the rest was easy, just another elevator and a few steps to the goal.

 

This goal takes 3 hours and 3 adults, 20 dollars of fuel... and i was sure that mi instrument was in excelent conditions.

Once we arrived i play it and not even once cord was under tonne, signal that we made a good job.
